Kratom (in some cases also known as Mitragyna speciosa) is a tropical tree that originates from South Asia, including Thailand and Malaysia. It has been used by the people in this region for the past three centuries, and even though illegal in Australia and Thailand, and Denmark, it is used by about 16 million Americans daily. People mainly use kratom to treat anxiety, depression, and pain. Red Vein Kratom, out of all the Kratom strains, tends to be filled with the most relaxation and tranquillity of the entire body. Red Kratom leaves are dried longer than other strains, and these leaves are the highest up in the tree, meaning they get the most sunlight. Although Kratom isn’t an opiod, it’s effects are similar to morphine or codeine.
The leaves can be taken in the form of tablets or, capsules. Alternative methods include eating the Kratom leaves fresh, grounding dried leaves and ingesting it as a powder, or boiling the leaves and making a tea out of it. There isn’t enough research done yet to be able to determine which one of the methods of taking the leaves is the most effective, so for now any of these methods will do. Within the Red Vein Kratom strain there are even more, different strains, with a few differences in their effects and properties, however here we will be discussing Red Vein Kratom in general.
Red vein kratom Benefits
As was mentioned above, the red Kratom leaves are mainly used to treat pain, depression, and anxiety. Some other benefits of Red Vein Kratom include the following:
- Treat Muscle Pain
- Treat Insomnia
- Treat High Blood Pressure
- Treat PTSD
- Treat Diarrhea
- Treat Opiod Addiction/Withdrawal
Generally, there is not that much research done on Kratom and Red Vein Kratom leaves, so there is a chance that there might be even more benefits to this medicinal herb. There have been suggestions that Red Vein Kratom enhances immunity, can be appetite-suppressing, and can also work as an anti-inflammatory. The main ingredient in the red stream of Kratom is mitragynine; and this seems to be that which causes most of the pain relief. A low dose of mitragynine will make you feel energized and awake, whereas a higher dose will have sedative effects. In terms of effects on the brain, Red Vein Kratom is able to increase focus, reduce anxiety, lift your mood, and increase your talkativeness.
Cases of side-effects in general are not that frequent, and people commonly know how to handle their usage of Red Vein Kratom leaves. However, it is certainly possible for certain side effects to occur, and these can be divided into two categories: mild side effects and more serious side effects. Experiencing mild side effects may lead to having a dry mouth, having the need for frequent urination, itchiness, feeling drowsy, or dizzy, nausea, a headache, constipation, and severe mood changes. On the other hand, more serious side effects can include a rapid, strong heartbeat, high blood pressure, having a lack of appetite, or problems with your liver, kidney, or memory. As was mentioned before, most side effects relating to Kratom leaves don’t exceed the ‘mild’ limit, so it is very rare that serious side effects occur from just Red Vein Kratom.
On the other hand, mixing it with alcohol can lead to more serious and sever side effects, as with most other substances. Using Kratom leaves for a very long period of time and then suddenly stopping could lead to withdrawal symptoms, these include insomnia, mood swings, and nausea, and eventually the withdrawal could lead to cases of depression and anxiety.
As there is not a lot of research done on Kratom and Red Vein Kratom leaves in general, there is also not much research done on the dosage. Some factors to take into consideration if and when considering the dosage are age, sex, and status of health. There was a study conducted recently (2018), amongst about 8,000 people who use the leaves, and the majority of them said that up to 5 grams of powder up to 3 times a day is enough to gain the benefits and effects of the leaves. It is suggested to start off using the powder in small dosages, and then work your way up to an amount with the desired effects. Regardless, here are some general guidelines for dosages when using the powder:
- 1 to 5 grams of the powder will make you feel more energized
- 5 to 15 grams of the powder will relieve pain, give an opioid-like high, as well as increase the risk of side effects
- 15 grams or more will give the effect of sedation and increase the risk of serious side effects
Keep in mind that this survey was conducted amongst people that use Red Vein Kratom in powder form only.
To summarize, there are a few things to consider if you are thinking about starting to consume Red Vein Kratom for any kind of treatment that it allows. Even though it is a natural substance and it helps to relieve pain and lower anxiety, this doesn’t mean that it comes with zero risks. You should still be very cautious of this herb and firstly start off with small dosages and work your way up until you have reached the desired effect of the leaves. You should not mix your usage of Kratom with alcohol, as this can lead to negative consequences and severe side effects; you should also not drive or work with any kind of machinery after taking the Kratom leaves. It is very important, when taking the Kratom leaves in powder form especially, to not exceed the limit of roughly 10-15 grams per take, per day. Overall, you should not have many complications with Red Vein Kratom usage; a lot of Americans use it daily and the severe side effects are still rather low, it is just important to, in all cases, remain careful and cautious.
